We’re proud to announce that Blinky is the 2025 SEGD Global Design Awards Merit Award winner in Placemaking!
Standing 17 feet tall and 100 feet long, the bright yellow alligator features rock climbing wall legs and a roller slide for a tail. It is both the most recognizable landmark of Florida Children’s Museum and the largest tribute to Lakeland’s unofficial reptilian mascot from the 1970s. The concept was envisioned by CEO Kerry Falwell, CFRE, and brought to life by the award-winning design studio, Gyroscope Inc.
The SEGD Global Design Awards celebrates the most innovative projects shaping how people engage with the built environment. Out of 284 submissions, only 30 projects were selected. Jury members noted that Blinky “instantly generates joy and engagement” and “successfully fosters community connection,” exactly what we hoped this project would inspire.
We’re thrilled by Blinky’s global recognition and grateful to all who made it possible.
