Explore STEAM Through Homeschool Workshops
Here at Florida Children’s Museum, our workshops incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math to introduce your children to a wide range of different concepts under these categories. Activities may include experiments, literature, cooking, art, and design. Each workshop is led by the Florida Children’s Museum Education Team and is designed for children aged five to ten years old. With different adventures each month, you’ll find your children love coming back to discover something new in a familiar environment.
A New Homeschool Adventure Every Month
Each month, we offer a new adventure and topic of exploration in our homeschool workshop services. These are just a few examples of themes we’ve offered as part of the 2026–27 schedule:
- Culture Connections: Family stories and traditions
- Grounded: Rocks, soil, and fossils
- Capturing a Moment: Photography and collecting memories
- You’re a Gem: Light, color, patterns, and optical illusions
- Let’s Grow: Life cycles and changes in nature
As you can see, these topics cover a wide range of STEAM subjects and will keep children engaged and excited to return over and over again. You’ll expose your children to concepts that will benefit their future and align with the experiences children in regular schools are offered as part of their curriculum.
Learning and Socialization Go Hand in Hand
If you ever have concerns about socialization for your children while they are homeschooling, our workshops offer peer interaction, giving them opportunities to communicate with children their age and collaborate on projects. These workshops help develop language and social skills, integrate them into the local community, and allow them to meet other homeschoolers. The school-group activities we offer as part of the workshops encourage children to share ideas and solve problems together. You’ll find they learn critical skills that will help them later on in life, whether you continue to homeschool your children or opt to send them to school in your local community in years to come.
A Convenient Homeschool Activity for Central Florida Families
Fitting activities around busy family schedules is often a challenge for homeschool families in Central Florida. We offer convenient 90-minute drop-off workshops on Mondays, with morning and afternoon sessions available to fit your family’s schedule. Families can stick around and explore Bonnet Springs Park or Florida Children’s Museum during the workshop. If you’ve never visited the museum before, we encourage you to pack a picnic and make a day of it by spending time exploring our many exhibits afterward.
We offer both member and non-member pricing and advance registration for our workshops. You may also want to consider becoming a member of Florida Children’s Museum if you are looking for an educational but fun place you can return to with your children throughout the year. Many homeschool families in the local area use the museum to offer variety in their children’s learning while also enjoying a great family day out during school time and summer or holiday breaks.
Put Science on Display at the Homeschool Science Expo
On March 6, 2027, we are excited to host the Homeschool Science Expo. This gives homeschool families in Central Florida the opportunity to take part in an activity that might not otherwise be accessible. Younger children can present science learning through a poster or display, whereas those aged seven years or older can complete and present a project using the scientific method. This is an amazing opportunity to meet and connect with other homeschool families in the local community and celebrate students’ work. Your children enjoy working on their projects in the lead-up to the event and experience the thrill of seeing their work on display at Florida Children’s Museum.
